Great Day

New word wall words are on the blog and in your child’s agenda.

Today in math we practiced counting by 1s, 2s, and 5s to 40 and by 10s to 100. I also showed them a 5 frame and ten frame flash activity on the blog.  We continued to work with the numbers 11 to 20 and comparing them to 10. If you have time tonight please ask your child to count by 1s, 2s, and 5s to 40 and 10s to 100.

In language today, we read some Halloween words, chanted out this week’s word wall words and then wrote a sentence in our journals. We are focusing on spelling word wall words properly and sounding out and guessing the letters of words that are not on the word wall. If you have time tonight, please ask your child to read this week’s word wall words to you and then tell you a sentence using the word are.

In science we talked about how the seasons affect the weather, the temperature, and the clothes we wear.

Have a great evening.

Wonderful Day

The library is still closed today. It will reopen for book exchange next week.

In math today we practiced counting by 1s, 2s, and 5s to 40 and by 10s to 100. The students also worked independently comparing the numbers from 11 to 19 to ten by say how many more than 10 the number was. If you have time tonight please show the following numbers to your child and have them tell you what they are (15, 12, 17, 13). Some children continue to be mixed up with the numbers from 11 to 19.

In language today we chanted out this week's word wall words and then the students worked with a partner to write a recount sentence. If you have time tonight please ask your child to read this week's word wall words to you and then tell you a sentence using the word come or coming.

The class used the mini ipads today and read on Raz Reading and worked on Spot the Dots.

Have a great evening.

Today in Math the students worked on comparing numbers from 11 to 19 to the number 10 by determining how many more than 10 the number was (13 is 10 and 3 more). If you have time tonight please ask your child to tell you how many more than 10 the following numbers are:  15, 12, 16, 14.

In language we chanted out this week’s word wall words, reviewed the sounds of the following letters (m, s, c, t, f, b, r and the short vowel a). We also read a book about what can walk on walls. If you have time tonight, please ask your child to read this week’s word wall words and then tell you a sentence using the word here.

In science we began talking about how living change and adapt to the different seasons.  We started by talking about how we get ready for winter. If you have time, ask your child to tell you a few things we do to get ready for winter.

Great Day

New word wall words are on the blog and in your child's agenda.

Today in math the students worked through several different centre activities that focused on identifying and counting numbers from 1 to 20. We also played a few games on the blog. If you have time tonight have your child play the games that we played today in class. They are on the blog under the Number Activities section of the blog (right hand side). You will only see the games if you are on the blog on a computer or laptop. Many of the games will not work on a tablet or iphone. The games we played  on the blog were Connect the Dots, Speed Counting, Counting to 20.

In language today, we chanted out this week’s word wall words and then we wrote a recount sentence of something we did on the weekend in our journals. Recount writing is when you write about something that has already happened in the past using past tense verbs. If you have time tonight, please ask your child to read this week’s word wall words and then tell you a sentence using the word big.

In science we talked about how day and night happens. Ask your child to explain how day and night happen.

Have a great evening.

Fabulous Day

The learning commons was closed today, so the students didn’t get a chance to take out any new books today.

In math today, we practiced counting and then the students worked by themselves using a ten frame and counters and made numbers from 1 to 20 and then compared those numbers to the number ten using the words more or less. If you have time tonight, please ask your child to draw 12 circles and then ask them to print the number 12 and then ask them to tell you if the number 12 is more or less than 10. Do this for the numbers 8 and 14.

In language today, we chanted out this week’s word wall words, did a shared reading of a book called Hair and then the students practiced reading or looking for word wall words in the books they had on their desks. If you have time tonight, please ask your child to read this week’s word wall words and then tell you a sentence using the word you.

Have a great evening.

Thank you for your generous donations for the walk-a-thon. The class had a great time participating in the walk-a-thon.

If you have time tonight please ask your child to use more or less and compare these numbers to the number 10:     15, 7, 12, 8

In language today, we chanted out this week’s word wall words and then we talked about the short vowel a sound as in the word apple. Please have your child read this week's word wall words to you and then tell you a sentence using the word day. If you have time tonight please print out the following words and have your child sound them out – Dad, map, pan, cab, crab

In science we watched 2 videos on seasons and learned that the reason the seasons happen is because of the earth moving around the sun. Ask your child to tell you the name of the seasons in the order they happen.
Have a great evening.
