– Today your child came home with a library book. They are to be returned to
school by the following Thursday. If your child doesn’t return the book by the
following Thursday they won’t be able to take out another book until it is
returned. Your child can bring back their library book any day between tomorrow
and next Thursday.
Notes - Today
your child has come home with 2 notes. One of the notes is information about
our grade 1 class. The other note is a list of the grade 1 word wall words and
when during the year they will be introduced. It would be helfpul if you kept
this list on your fridge to have it handy each week.

and independent pattering activity where they had to draw the next couple of
pattern parts. If you have time tonight please have your child make a pattern
using some items at home (forks and spoons, buttons, crayons etc). Ask your
child to see if they can make patterns that are not just an AB pattern.

child to read this week’s word wall words to you and then tell you a sentence
using the word see.
we completed lesson 3 of the Samaritans on the Digital Road. Today we talked
about not sharing our passwords with anyone except our teachers or our parents.
We also talked about how we can use the internet for good things.

child for 12 days. We are all learning about grade 1 rules and routines and working
on listening and following instructions and directions.
today the students practiced counting by 1s and 5s to 30 and by 10s to 100. They
also completed an independent patterning activity. If you have time tonight
please ask your child to count by 1s to 30 (many students are saying 30 for the
number 13, or 31 for the number 13, this also happens for the other numbers
from 13 to 19, please keep an ear out for this).

Today we talked about what a digital community is and how to stay safe when
working on the internet. We learned 3 rules – always ask a parent if you can be
on the internet, only talk to people you know on the internet, and only go to
sites or places that are just right for you. Ask your child to tell you the 3
rules we learned today.
Today in math the students used classroom materials to make 2 different patterns. The students then partnered up and went around to each set of patterns and discussed what goes next, the core and then renamed the patterns using letter of the alphabet. If you have time tonight please show the patterns below to your child and have them rename the pattern with the letters of the alphabet, what comes next and then ask them what the core of the pattern is (for the first pattern renaming using letters (ABC, ABC etc), what comes next (blue), the pattern core is ( blue, green, yellow).
In language we have started our Word Wall program.The word wall words for this week can be found on the blog and in your child’s agenda on Mondays. 5 words (I, can, see, like, play) were introduced today. Each week there will be 5 new words. A list of the words for the year will be given out on Thursday. On Monday the students will write the new words in their agenda. From Tuesday to Friday they will write the words in their word wall notebook that we will keep at school. On Friday the words will be placed on the class word wall. By Friday each student should be able to read these words. Please have your child practice reading and printing these words at home each night (Perhaps on Monday night they can read the words to you, on Tuesday night they could print the words and read them to you, on Wednesday night they could say each word in a sentence and on Thursday they could print them and read them). Many students will need extra printing practice ,at home, so this would be a good chance to have them work on their printing skills. If you have time tonight please ask your child to read this week's word wall words to you and then tell you a sentence using the word can. In Religion this week we will be working through the Samaritans on the Digital Road lessons which talk what it means to be a good citizen and how we are good citizens on the internet. Today we used the bible story the Good Samaritan to talk about what a good citizen does. Ask your child how they can be a good citizen. Have a great evening.

In math today we did more work on patterning. Today we focused on making our own patterns and then naming the core. If you have time tonight please ask your child to make a pattern (draw it on paper) and then tell you what the pattern core is (the part of the pattern that repeats - if the pattern was: clap clap jump clap clap jump clap clap jump then the core is clap clap jump).
In language today we focused on the letter M. We practiced making upper case and lower case Ms and then we practiced making the M sound. If you have time tonight please ask your child to make a few upper and lower case Ms and then tell you 3 words that start with the letter M. We also read a book called New Bear at School. Have your child tell you what happened in the book.
